Zilver Restaurant
Shop 6010/11 Westfield Bondi Junction
500 Oxford St
Bondi Junction, Sydney

Zilver restaurant has been drawing crowds at it’s Haymarket location for a long time now. Now the Zilver Group has expanded and opened this big and beautiful place at Westfield Bondi. It’s in the more glamorous part of the centre, away from the busier shops, so it doesn’t really feel like you are in a shopping centre. There is a lounge area outside the restaurant which is perfect for a pre-dinner drink.

We walked in past a sea of floral tributes, to an impressive bar area covered with glasses. Instinctively, we took one and went in to check out the venue. It’s such a big space with floor to ceiling glass at the back, overlooking Bondi Junction, with a private dining area which can be curtained off from the crowd. A steady stream of people arrived in dressy attire – owners, media, celebrities and politicians and the place soon filled up.

Plates of food were circulating and we tried some delicious spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce.

Then a particular favourite of Dame M's came by – little Peking duck pancakes. Soooo good! Crispy skin duck on the inside with hoisin sauce and shallots in soft wrapping! Apparently the other guests loved them too as they quickly disappeared.

Other tasty delights included deep fried calamari and some particularly awesome salt and pepper squid with a deliciously salty garlic crust. Yum!

The prawn hargow were succulent and delicious and the skewers with marinated beef and shitake mushrooms were also super tasty as well.

We also both loved the beautifully crispy honey prawns. Dame M thought everything was so delicious and Dame J eagerly agreed.

Our attention was requested for the arrival of the Chinese dragon and we gathered outside to watch the colourful cultural display of music and dancing. A lettuce was passed among the restaurant owners as a symbol of wealth and new beginnings. This was followed inside by some speeches by owners and celebrities while traditional cakes were offered to guests. The celebrations also included a short slideshow on the Zilver group and the cutting of a suckling pig (cooked, of course!)

So Zilver at Bondi Junction opened with a bang and we would have to say the food was exceptionally good. It’s open for yum cha during the day and again in the evening for a la carte. We both agreed we would be back to enjoy more of their delicious goodies.

Those Dames, who review for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of Zilver. Big thanks to Zoe O'Sullivan of Sibling Agency for this invitation.
