TOROS TAPAS & BAR - DARLING HARBOUR, SYDNEY

There’s something about sitting on the promenade with a glass in hand and some tasty food while gazing out over the waters of Darling Harbour. It’s a nice place to be watching the people stroll by. Tapas is the perfect grazing meal too as you get to nibble on a wide variety of smaller dishes.

We started with a big bowl of chorizo. It came in chargrilled slices and served mixed with potato and sofrito sourdough crust. It was extremely tasty. This isn’t the usual way we’ve had chorizo but it turned out to be a great dish. It looked impressive and had lovely flavours. There was plenty of it too.

The cheese and potato croquettes were longer and thinner than we are normally used to. They came in a serving of three with Woodside goats curd and spiced membrillo. We then had a serving of meatballs that came with tomato sofrito, Parmesan cheese and toasted almonds.

Calamari is a dish we rarely resist. Here they had chilli salt calamari served with aioli. It’s a simple combination but the real test is how well the calamari is cooked. Fortunately the pieces here were nicely tender inside and gently golden on the outside.

We do love pastry with filling - well Sir does - a lot! He spotted the vegetarian empanadas on the menu so we grabbed a serving. These were corn and yuca Spanish pastry served with mojo verde. We also had to have some sangria too. The red sangria could be ordered by the glass or in larger portions.

While most of the place is outside there is an indoor area too. On fine days though this is all basically open anyway.

Toros Tapas Bar is one of the few places in the area where you can get tapas. It’s a great spot to sit, eat and watch the foot traffic on the promenade.
