SIMPLY SPANISH - BOURKE ST, MELBOURNE CBD

Simply Spanish
555 Bourke St
Melbourne CBD

Spanish is one of many go-to foods for us. We love visiting Spain and love their food there and anywhere else. On a short visit to Melbourne and after a light bite, Simply Spanish beckoned. They have several restaurants across Melbourne including this one off Bourke St.

Some bread, some olive oil and vinegar and a glass of Sangria were a perfect start while looking at the menu in more detail. They have a good selection here but bites (or tapas) were the order of the day this time. The sangria was a tasty drop though and the bread helped get our appetites going.

We’ve always loved croquetas. They come in so many versions, varieties and sizes and are such a great part of any Spanish meal. These delicious morsels had a filling of Manchego cheese and mashed potato in a crispy golden coating.

Lamb ribs aren’t that common here in Oz so they were quickly added to the order. These smoky lamb ribs were so tender and juicy. They came with a side of fresh apple coleslaw dressed with spiced apple aioli and lemon. It was a really tasty dish.

The tinned Cuca anchovy fillets was a must have! Anchovies are so good with lightly crisped bread. These were tinned in olive oil and served with a bowl of caramelised fennel and toasted bread. The fennel was quite a unique touch that nicely cut through the saltiness of the anchovies without removing it. This is a dish to have again and again.

This place has a nice feel to it. It has plenty of Spanish items around the place and a buzz as people enjoy their food and drinks.

Simply Spanish was a great find. The food was great, the service friendly and helpful and the place has a great atmosphere.
