THE SAWMILL | WEST PYMBLE

August 31, 2016

The Sawmill
7 Duneba Ave
West Pymble, Sydney

The Sawmill is an  Italian Café Restaurant Pizzeria that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day except Tuesdays and they have only been open for 4 months.

There is a history of the aptly named The Sawmill as Pymble and surrounding areas was once a major supplier of timber to the early Sydney colony. Note as you walk in,  to the right - encased in glass either side of stairs are huge round saw blades. It's nice that they have kept the theme and you can see this in the decor and the wonderful timber designed tables and exposed timber roof. They seat approximately 80 and there is seating outside as well.

The venue has a warmth and comfortable feel to it and the staff are very friendly.

When we arrived Mlady ordered a Cabernet Merlot and Sir ordered a cocktail - a strawberry daiquri. The Merlot went well with Mlady's meal. Sir's daiquiri was amazing. The presentation had a real "WOW" factor.  It arrived in 2 glasses. The bottom glass was filled with ice - to keep the top glass that had the daiquir nice and cool. Sir loved this! It was refreshing, fruity and he described it as a chunky, fruity slushy - YUM.

For entrees we had the Caprese Rivistitata - Tomato with buffalo mozzarella, pesto with house made bread and the Seafood delight - Scampi and seared scallops with tomato pesto.

These both were so tasty. The Caprese Rivistitata was a lovely presented dish with such great tasting goodies and dipping the wonderfully soft house made bread into the pesto - nice. The Seafood Delight - had soft, pump and juicy seared scallops that were cooked to perfection and the scampi had a nice smokey bbq'ed flavour - we really enjoyed these.

For mains we had a pizza - Prosciutto - Fior di latte, rocket, prosciutto, parmesan with a tomato base. There was plenty on this and it was oh so tasty. The prosciutto was so finely cut and the rocket went so well. Such a tasty pizza.

The other main was a risotto - it was a special one from The Board - combining prawns, strawberries, balsamic and a prosecco reduction. This really was an interesting and unique dish. This unusual combination actually worked very well and we noticed that it was a popular choice on the night.

The desserts we ordered were - a pistachio canoli and the Toblerone Delight - Milk chocolate and roasted hazelnut mousse. The canoli was yummy and crunchy with a nice subtle pistachio flavour. The Toblerone Delight had a "WOW" factor. One of the best attractive desserts ever. It really was hard to eat as it was such a pretty dessert. Oh but the first bite - OMG - this was so good. It was incredibly smooth and the hazelnut mousse was divine. There were also tiny little "gold" pieces of chocolate that you could eat. A truely amazing dessert.

To complete our meal we had a Mr. Black coffee liqueur. Oh - how nice is this! Sir had it as a cocktail. It was  topped with foam and coffee beans and it was almost like a cuppacino cocktail. Was a nice way to have an after meal coffee.

Mlady had it with a splash of orange juice with a large ice cube and orange peel. OMG - it was like a Jaffa - loved it. If you enjoy coffee then this is certainly a must have.

The food here is really tasty and they have a great varied menu. It's a great place for dinner, lunch or breakfast - or just a coffee and canoli.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of The Sawmill. A big thank you to Rocco - the owner for chatting with us and looking after us on the night. Thank you also to Claudia for taking care of us. Special thanks to Alana Garton of Wasamedia for arranging our visit.
