KURTOSH - RANDWICK, SYDNEY

We had some wonderful mouth-watering delicacies from Kurtosh Randwick after a spot of shopping. A bit of history about Kurtosh is that it is a traditional Hungarian pastry. The name comes from Kurtoskalacs. The shape is known as a chimney cake and it is often sold in Hungary as a street snack served from carts. Here it also serves as a snack, treat, dessert or anything you want it to be.

The impressive Kurtosh was piping hot when it arrived. The aroma was amazing. It had a nice soft centre. Oh how lovely was the crust. It was beautifully crisp with an oh so good light cinnamon sugar crunch. It’s something like a cross between a cinnamon doughnut and cinnamon toast - but so much better!

Nutella Babka is a fave of Mladys. This was an irresistible rich soft airy dough with swirling delicious Nutella inside and topped with cute little choc drops. It looked impressive and tasted even better.

The baked raspberry cheesecake was nice and firm with a good solid base. Having the subtle raspberry flavour completed this tasty cheesecake. We could eat and eat this beauty. Tiramisu is a bit of a ‘go to’ for both of us. The soft delicate coffee flavours went well with the light chocolate sponge. This was another very nice dessert. Next, we had the strawberry and pistachio sponge. This was a very pretty dessert with a flavoursome pistachio and strawberry hit. Sir kindly let Mlady have the strawberry that sat on top. Sir loves his tarts, so we chose the lime and ginger meringue tart.  This was so good. The meringue was gooey which Mlady believes makes for a great meringue. This was a refreshing tart with wonderful flavours that did not overpower.

Mlady loves chocolate, so we, or she, just had to have the cookie fudge Nutella. This ticked all the boxes. The crust was so soft and just melted as you ate it. It was almost meringue like. The chocolate fudge was a winner. Mlady loved it. It was so fudgy and Mlady said this was one of the best fudge Nutella cookies she has ever had. Such a shame she had to share!

Sir, no surprises, had to try the palmier.  Palmiers are made similar to the dough that is used to make croissants but without the yeast.  They are so tasty.  This had a nice golden colour with crispy flaky pastry and a nice crust of sugar on top. He loved it and devoured it!

The biggest challenge with a visit to Kurtosh is deciding what to have. There are so many options, and they all look so good. Just be prepared to take your time. It’s worth remembering that you can buy most “slabs” by weight so you can really indulge or else you can get quite a few in smaller doses. The choice again is yours.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Kurtosh Randwick. Big thanks to everyone there for looking after us so well. Special thanks to Collab.rium for arranging this visit.
