Yum cha is a scarce commodity in Hornsby. Yes it’s there but so many people like it that the market eagerly searches for it. House of canton has been around for a while. Their yum cha has been on offer for a while too, but it was only available by ordering dishes from their menu. Now they’ve moved to using trolleys.hile bothn methods can work we do love trolleys rattling by. You get to see the actual dishes at the time you’re ordering. It’s real time in every way.

We started with prawn dumplings. They were is a serving of four and we eagerly grabbed a dish of chilli sauce for dipping. It’s the perfect way to eat prawn dumplings - at least for us it is!

We had to have some crispy, fried things. It’s not yum cha unless there’s at least something crunchy on the table! We chose prawn toast - which we hadn’t eaten anywhere for ages - and pork dumplings. Both were good and satisfied our crispy needs.

While we usually have our dim sims fried, the steamed ones looked good and were there on the trolley. They were quickly added to the table and again went nicely with the chilli dipping sauce.

Our final dish was a bowl of steamed scallop dumplings. A second dish of chilli sauce was quickly diminished with these.

The change in yum cha here at House of Canton from menu to trolleys is a big step forward. Lets hope the locals realise this and give it a go.

House of Canton has potential. They need to keep the trolleys running for yum cha - and perhaps even get a few more - and get the word out.
