PICKLED SISTERS CAFE - WAHGUNYAH, VICTIRIA

The Pickled Sisters Cafe
Cofield Wines
Distilery Rd
Wahgunyah, Victoria

Owned and operated by husband and wife team Stewart Gilchrist and Marion Hansford their eight years here has resulted in a wonderful cafe/restaurant that relies heavily on local produce to create memorable meals in a lovely environment.

Sir and Mlady were joined by Baroness A for this meal.

We were dining for brunch and my choice was the Butt's smoked trout. I love smoked trout and this is local from Butts Gourmet SmokeHouse in Albury.

This appealing dish is described in the menu as grilled and served with scrambled eggs and sour cream on toast.

The smoked trout was in smallish pieces and was indeed delicious. The scrambled eggs were so light and fluffy and the combination of trout and sour cream went perfectly.

Although this could have been an overly rich and overpowering dish it was extremely delicate with the full mix of flavours showing through. At $15.00 it was decent value.

Baroness A had the Eggs Benedict, which wasn't a surprise to Mlady or Sir as this is her absolute favourite breakfast/brunch.

They looked so tasty and were nicely presented.

What arrived was poached eggs and bacon on toast with hollandaise sauce.

Both Baroness A and I love eggs Benedict with either smoked salmon or some form of ham, prosciutto or bacon.

I'm not 100% sure which is her favourite but this looked amazing and the sauce tasted great as well (which is so important). This tasty treat was $16.00.

Mlady is the scrambled egg queen! It's her breakfast of choice almost always - when she's actually having breakfast.

She said these scrambled eggs were up there with the best she'd ever had - saying they were "light and fluffy and oh so yummy".

They looked amazing. They came in a  generous serving as well.

These were on the menu as "Free Range Eggs on Toast" and two eggs come either poached, fried or scrambled. It's basically your eggs of choice option.

These free range eggs only cost $9.50 and are great value for a lovely fresh breakfast.

The coffee at The Pickled Sisters Cafe is great. Across the three of us we sampled a latte, skim cappucino and a skim flat white. Mlady loved hers so much she went back for seconds!

The Pickled Sisters Cafe is an oasis well worth finding. The food and service is excellent and the decor is extremely pleasant. On a fine day it would be lovely sitting outside watching the beautiful surroundings and eating this great food.
