THE Q ON HARRIS | ULTIMO, SYDNEY

November 22, 2016

The Q on Harris
597 Harris St
Ultimo, Sydney

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and upon entering The Q on Harris, we knew they felt this way too. The first thing we noticed was the coffee roaster that commands the room in this deceivingly large breakfast spot. It has a very relaxed and friendly vibe which made us feel comfortable and welcome as soon as we had stepped inside the door.

We were shown to the sunny comfortable courtyard out the back, which was very calm and reminded us of a Zen garden. Thed Q on Harris smoke their own small goods like bacon, pork and salmon in the BBQ in the courtyard, which added to the experience with the smoky aroma. We ordered some coffee and drinks and were left to have a browse at the menu.

We then had a chat with the owner Benji whose passion for good food and coffee was evident from the get-go. He took us through the menu and recommended we try The Q Big Brekkie which showcased their selection of house smoked small goods including hot smoked salmon, hickory smoked chicken, and house made bacon. It was a big dish and we couldn’t wait to tuck in. Everything was delicious, from the soft slow poached eggs to the stunning baked beans with fennel seeds, but the house-smoked small goods were definitely the standout.

The second option we tried was a traditional Indonesian dish; pork shoulder in spicy rica-rica sauce. This dish is from the area of Indonesia that Benji’s family originates and he was proud to explain that he has maintained the traditional recipe. Although the dish may not be much to look at, the flavours were absolutely incredible. It was zesty from the lemongrass and lime, spicy from the chilli and matched perfectly with the black rice and salad. We were pleasantly surprised by this dish, and something we would definitely come back for.

We loved our visit to The Q on Harris. We left full, satisfied and very impressed!

The Viscountess and Viscount were guests of The Q on Harris. A big thank you to Benji and the team at The Q on Harris for hosting and looking after us so nicely. Special thanks to April from CPM Online Marketing Solutions for arranging this visit.
