PLERN THAI CUISINE | HAYMARKET, SYDNEY

Plern Thai is a newish kid on the block in the booming Thainatown of Sydney CBD. In an area that boasts more Thai restaurants per square kilometre than anywhere else in Sydney more place keep appearing.

Plern isn't a big place and has a smallish street front. Yet it has a pleasant atmosphere inside with its street art vibe adorning the walls everywhere you look.

During the day it also has a lunch menu - as almost every place there has. We were there to try this out.

Sir had an old favourite - Pad Thai - and this time with prawns as the main "meat". This dish is often an insight into a Thai restaurant and may well give you a sense of the whole menu. The dish arrived largely deconstructed - as it should be. There were plenty of decent sized prawns there too and it was a big serving that tasted very good with a ice sauce that wasn't overly runny or to dominant. This was a very nice meal on a plate.

Duke had a chicken pad see ew. Again it was a decent sized serving arriving quickly at the table and clearly freshly prepared. There was plenty of chicken in it too - and it was tender. This dish, like Pad thai, is great for a quick tasty lunch.

Plern serves up some tasty lunch dishes. The menu goes well beyond this though with some interesting choices available. In a busy area for Thai restaurants this new kid on the block will need to make its mark clearly - but it seemed popular when we were there so it's off to a good start.
