Bao’s are certainly something we find hard to resist. Fluffy pillows filled with tasty delicacies and a tangy sauce always gets us going. Mr Bao Buns has set up shop in the bustling Darling Square precinct inside The Exchange. You know the building, it’s the one with the skewed timber spirals circling around the outside. It really does stand out.

We started with their stuffed chicken wings. If you haven’t had these before you’re missing out. The bones are removed (except for the end bit) and the skin and meat is then stuffed with filling before being deep fried. It’s golden and crisp on the outside with a great filling inside. The sweet chilli dipping sauce goes well too and adds a gentle kick.

The Crispy Tofu Bao comes with agedashi sauce, pickled daikon, red shallots and coriander. It’s a big piece of tofu inside too and a great combination of tangy flavours.

They also do a mean Char Sui Bao as well. This is basically a steamed BBQ pork bun. This tantalisingly fluffy bun was filled with deliciously sweetish pork meat.

If you like karaage chicken as much as we do then it’ll probably be a choice of yours here as well. The karaage chicken bao comes with spicy aioli, pickled red cabbage and coriander. It’s a bao with a bit of bite and very tasty too.

The cheeseburger spring roll is a popular order here. We all like a good cheeseburger and having it in a spring roll sounds indulgently inspired. This was crisp on the outside and had plenty of flavour too.

They serve your food in a tray that displays all your goodies nicely and also insulates them as well. We had fries too which were also nice.

Mr Bao Buns was a great find. They do great bao’s but they also have plenty of other tasty food as well. It gets busy at peak hours but that just shows its popular, and for a good reason.
