HENRY'S | CRONULLA, SYDNEY

November 2, 2016

Henrys
1 Ocean Grove Ave
Cronulla, Sydney

If you are after some interesting and innovative dishes with really great flavours – you can’t go past Henrys. The cuisine is contemporary and they also serve delicious cocktails.  They are located in Cronulla within walking distance of the beach. It is a very spacious venue with both indoor and outdoor seating and can cater to approximately 128 people.

It's nice and “airy” inside with a relaxing leafy feature wall. The black and white décor give it an exotic beach type feel.

The cocktails we had were –as Sir is a rum drinker – the Henrys Granita, Bacardi 8 yr. rum, passionfruit pulp, lemongrass cordial, fresh lime juice, coco Lopez cream of coconut, shaken and strained into a crushed ice filled rocks glass. It tasted as refreshing as it sounded.

Mlady – loves scotch so she had the Wild Scotsman – Glen Fiddich 12 year Scotch, Joseph Cartron wild strawberry, strawberry liqueur, Joseph Cartron white crème de cacao liqueur, egg white, fresh strawberries, muscatels served in a grappa glass with shaved dark chocolate. Such a lovely cocktail and the shaved dark chocolate topped it off nicely.

We started with the Kingfish crudo, heirloom vegetables, horseradish, oyster emulsion, avruga caviar – was another colourful dish. This was refreshing with a nice mixture of textures. Horseradish is so versatile which compliments, adds flavour and brings out flavour. The Kingfish crudo was delicate and tasty. The avruga caviar gave it another flavoured level which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Next we had the prawn and scallop “fettuccine”, sauce vierge, shiso leaves, flying fish roe.  Both loving seafood we just had to try this. Another dainty looking dish with lots of wonderful flavours and textures. The Fettuccine was cooked perfectly. The flying fish roe complimented nicely in taste and in colour.

Then we had Prosciutto San Daniele, smoked buffalo mozzarella, vanilla apples, house grilled focaccia. How good was this! The house grilled focaccia was simply divine! One of the best we have had. It was so fluffy! Oh and the Prosciutto – again one of our favourites. Wrapping this with the smoked buffalo mozzarella with a few vanilla apples – which we have to say – was incredibly delicious. Not forgetting those cute and crunchy and colourful pomegranates – totally loved this dish. The taste sensation for this yummy dish was – amazing!

A salad we also had was cucumber, mint, candied walnuts, norey powder and grapes. The candied walnuts added a nice crunch and a lovely sweetness.  All the flavours and textures complimented one another. You could taste everything and there was no overpowering of any one ingredient. This dish was a work of art.

Next were the Spanish mackerel, kale, pickled shiitake, parsnip puree, and salmon roe. Such a flavoursome dish. The Spanish mackerel was cooked perfectly. The parsnip puree reminded you of a really good whipped mash potato – in texture. Putting it all together with the salmon roe and getting that little explosion of the roe when crunching down – heavenly. The kale was beautifully crunchy. This was a really good combination of different textures. Loved this dish!

Dessert was raspberry sorbet, tofu chocolate, rice biscuit and buckini. It was Gluten free and vegan friendly. This dessert was so visually appealing it was a shame to eat it but once you laid your eyes on that gorgeous tofu chocolate – your taste buds won. OMG – incredibly delicious.  The tofu chocolate was so smooth and the tart raspberry gave it another refreshing taste dimension. It was a wonderful end to complete our visually and tantalising meal.

The food here is incredibly innovative and visually appealing with the flavours being fresh and delicious. There menu is varied with wonderful combinations and has something for everyone. Servings are generous and are great for sharing.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Henrys Cronulla. Big thanks to Julian and Rob for looking after us so professionally and so nicely. Special thanks to Clive Morley for organising our visit.
