EASTINS WINE BAR AND RESTAURANT | BALMAIN, SYDNEY

August 14, 2016

Eastin's Wine Bar and Restaurant
358 Darling St
Balmain Sydney

Eastin’s Wine Bar and Restaurant is a lovely venue that has both inside and outside seating.  The décor is comfortable, interesting and nostalgic. There are comfortable booths reminiscent of old world railway carriages, resplendent hanging lamps and fascinating vinyl records – for those that remember these! The wine list has a good selection of Australian wines and Mlady had a favourite of hers Merlot and this one was from Adelaide.

Sir opted for a cocktail called Lego land – described as - let your imagination run wild with this unique combination of dark rum, lime, honey and sparkling wine. It will truly set you free. Sir – being a huge fan of run – thoroughly enjoyed this.  Sir also had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from Victoria of which he enjoyed.

We sat in one for the comfortable booths and decided to share plates and started with Sugar cured salmon – mascarpone, baby beetroot and herbs.  This was so fresh, vibrant and so tasty. Good textures and such a good combination. Loved this.

Next was the oven baked chicken croquettes. An all-time favourite for both of us so we just had to try these. It came with home-made tomato relish. The relish had a great tomato taste that was rich and ever so tasty. Was so delicious, scooping the relish with the chicken croquette, yummo.

Another dish we shared was the grilled chorizo that came with spicy chilli jam. How good was this. The chorizo was hearty chunks and the spicy chilli jam complimented so well.

Our main was the Seafood Paella – Mussels, king prawns, octopus, ocean squid and clams. Where to start? It all looked so good. So colourful and so appetising.  The paella was flavoursome and the wonderful variety of seafood combined so well. Such a tasty dish.

For dessert we shared the Rhubarb strawberry toastie with crème fraiche – this really had a wow factor. Beautifully presented, sitting on a dark plate enhancing this very mouth - watering dessert.  Slice into it with your spoon – delicious.

Next we shared the lacy Ricotta Crepes – dates and lemon. Soft crepes with lovely ricotta and dates and you could certainly taste the lemon.

Eastins Wine Bar and Restaurant has a great feel to it and some very tasty food and drinks as well. It's a great addition to the Balmain scene.

Sir and Mlady dined as guests of Eastin’s Wine Bar and Restaurant. Thank you to Andrea for this invitation and to her and Taylor for taking care of us on the night.
