500 DEGREES - CRONULLA, SYDNEY

500 Degrees
10 Cronulla St
Cronulla, Sydney

In the current climate it’s great to see venues starting to open again. It shows confidence in what they are offering and hope for what lies ahead! 500 Degrees is one such place as they’ve now opened up a second Sydney venue, on the mall in Cronulla. Although many would correctly describe it as a meat eaters heaven, they really do have so much more. That said, they do great meat here too!

They have a full bar and a good range of wines, beers and cocktails - just right for the meal ahead. Sir had a refreshing Aperol Spritz (and later on Mlady pinched his alcohol soaked fruit - orange and strawberries). She grabbed a glass of Merlot - they have plenty of choices by the glass or bottle here. Later on again she had a glass of 500 Degrees Shiraz delivered to the table by the organiser of our wonderful visit - Mick (Hungry Diner) and then stolen/shared from Simon Leong (Simon Food Favourites). Both were very nice drops. There’s a pattern emerging here with her too - guard your drinks people!

We shared entrees. These included char char wings which were char-grilled chicken wings served with their secret basting sauce - and we absolutely loved these. The sauce was really tangy and so tasty! We also had a serving of their great garlic bread.

There was also their unique bone marrow with chimmichurri sauce with bread. It went so well together with the richness of the marrow and the spicy chimmichurri creating a great taste combination.

The Garlic mushrooms were a favourite of Mladys, these were cooked with garlic butter and wine creating a rich and intensely flavoured mix. Then the panko risotto balls came served on top of wild rocket and glazed with spicy aioli. It was a nice combination, especially with the freshness of the wild rocket as this has such a unique flavour. Our final starter, the scallops, came cooked so well and served with pea purée, It was another lovely combination.

Then on to the main menu where there wa sagain so much there to choose. Mlady decided on something she is quite partial too - a burger. She went with the Wagyu burger with chips. It was a 200gm seasoned Wagyu beef patty grilled on an open flame. It came with lettuce, tomato, onion, spiced, pickle and mustard aioli. Now we know that the main part of the burger is the meat and the the Wagyu beef patty which was phenomenal and cooked perfectly. It was mouth-wateringly good but Mlady also loved the crispness of the lettuce and salad. This whole meal was delicious and with the chips, it was complete. This was seriously one of the best Wagyu burgers with salad ever! The 500 “Branding” on top of the bun was cute too.

After much deliberation Sir chose his main from ‘Ranges of Combo’s’ and had the Ribs and Rump. With this you have a choice of ribs and Sir went with pork with his nicely cooked 250gm rump steak. All combo’s are open flame char grilled and the amazingly tender and juicy ribs came slathered in their delicious secret basting sauce. He also had a good sized serving of chips with his meal.

For meat lovers, you will be in for a great taste sensation. The 1.2kg black onyx Angus tomahawk steak looked divine and so impressive.

The steak and chicken wings combo was another great looking dish. The wings were again basted in that great sauce and it came with a good sized salad too. Alternatively, you could go for the New England grain fed 400gm beef T Bone - a big feed that also came with salad. The Darling Downs eye fillet looked so good too. The steaks are all flame grilled so you also get those lovely smokey barbecued flavours in the meat.

While we were there we also got to witness the eating machine himself - Justin (justin_time2eat) take on trying to devour a massive 1kg rump steak, chips and a beer in under ten minutes. For the record he did it in under five minutes. It was impressive to watch. This guy really can speed eat!

Another eye-popper here is the 24 karat gold coated eye fillet steak. It brings a sparkle to any table and is so unique. Our amazing event organiser Mick (Hungry Diner) took on this one.

There is so much to choose from here there will definitely be something for everyone. , so something for everyone. They do steaks, burgers, ribs, chicken, seafood, salads, sides, starters and of couse dessert - which we couldn’t fit in!
