THE SAWMILL | WEST PYMBLE, SYDNEY

October 17, 2016

The Sawmill (Launch Event)
7 Duneba Ave,
West Pymble, Sydney

It was the place to be on this beautiful Thursday evening – the glittering launch party of this Italian café in West Pymble. It’s tucked away from the main road (Ryde Rd) in a little cluster of specialty shops. The Sawmill is quite new, having opened only around April this year but it’s already a hit with the locals. This event was an impressive bash which was attended by over 100 guests including some of the most loyal customers. There was an abundance of great food, a talented musician (Jonathan Collins) and even an opera performance by the pastry chef!

We were greeted on the red carpet by the hosts and organisers who ushered us in to the bar. The place was ablaze with sparkling gold decorations and there was a stand out front offering “Mr Black” espresso martinis and other exotic mixes.

An amazing layout of antipasto was waiting inside – enough to feed an army! Such lovely cured meats, cheeses and seafood platters to help ourselves to. The café filled up rapidly and then the pizza procession began. Crispy, steaming hot wood-fired pizzas of all different varieties were passed around. They were so delicious it was hard to stop reaching for new flavours as they came out.

The staff and owners here are all friendly and welcoming, with a real passion for their food and plenty of that cheery Italian hospitality. The dinner menu is appealing – antipasto starters, pizza, pasta and risotto as well as soups and substantial salads. Mains also include meat, fish and poultry options which look great too.

Let there be cake! Lots of it! The ceremonial arrival of this spectacular cake was a highlight of the evening. Made from strategically arranged Italian pastries and cakes, it was a sight to behold. The talented Sawmill pastry chef Rocco Speranza, who created this monolith, then surprised and delighted us all with an operatic number. He sang his heart out and brought the house down!

It was a fabulous evening for the Sawmill and those of us lucky enough to attend. The good news is the great food will continue – every day except Tuesdays. Well worth a visit if you want a treat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We will be back to try the breakfast here after checking out the mouthwatering brekky menu.

Those Dames, who review exclusively for Sir and Mlady Dine Out, dined as guests of The Sawmill. Thanks to Christina from Wasamedia for the invitation and all the lovely folk at the Sawmill.
