IL BACIO - DARLING SQUARE, SYDNEY

Darling Square, Sydney

We wandered around Darling Square and were amazed at the amount of wonderful venues  to choose from. Darling Square is well worth a visit! While there are a lot of Asian eateries there - not surprising considering it sits very close to Chinatown - we decided on Italian and ventured to Il Bacio for dinner. Il Bacio is a modern Italian restaurant which is quite a spacious. The use of angled mirrors around the walls opens the area up even more and adds to the light airy feel.

For drinks we both chose Aperol Spritz - we were doing Italian after all! This is such a great refreshing drink that not only looks good it goes so well with Italian food.

We decided to go gently and only have one starter so we chose the Polpete meatballs. There was plenty of tasty meatballs - eight in fact - in a deliciously rich tomato sauce. It also came with a serving of focacia. The focaccia was so good that you could eat it by itself, or, even better, use it to soak up that lovely tomato sauce.

As a main Sir had Ink Spaghetti. This came with prawns, mussels, Nduja and roast tomato. Ink Spaghetti gives a meal a visually different dimension. Being black, with the seafood sitting on top and having the vibrancy of the roasted tomato, it really was appealing to look at. It tasted just as good as it looked too!

Mlady unusually chooses pasta but steered away on this occasion and had the Risotto Beetroot. Mlady loves beetroot and is also a bit of a fan of blue cheese too, so she this dish grabbed her. The menu described it as beetroot, Gorgonzola and carnaroli rice. It was another visually appealing dish. The colour was amazing - so vibrant! The Gorgonzola was subtle and Mlady simply loved this dish!

Il Bacio is unusual in that it’s an Italian eatery sitting in a sea predominantly Asian places. that said, the food is good and thge service was certainly friendly and efficient. They’ve got an interesting menu with a good range of options. It’s a place well worth a visit.

They are also open all day covering breakfast, lunch and dinner and also working as a restaurant, café and bar. It really is something for everyone!
