FRATELLI FRESH | WESTFIELD SYDNEY

November 8, 2016

Fratelli Fresh
Westfield Sydney
188 Pitt St
Sydney CBD

Fratelli Fresh should not require any introductions and if it does, well, we regret to say that you have been missing out on some fine Italian food for quite some time now. Fratelli Fresh has come a long way since their Flagship store was operating in Danks St all those years ago. They now have restaurants all over Sydney and even Melbourne.

We visited Fratelli Fresh at their Westfield Sydney restaurant, to try their new spring menu. Its in a perfect location right in the heart of Sydney’s shopping Mecca, its so close to the action,  you can literally go from Armani to Aperol in just a few steps.

Fratelli Fresh has a strong reputation for simple yet amazing flavours, so it's no surprise the zucchini flowers stuffed with 5 Italian cheeses had us scraping every crumb off the plate in a matter of minutes - What a great start to the evening!

The Salumeria Selection, another beautiful entrée, was a perfect pair to the focaccia we tried. Sourced from Byron Bay and cured for 18 months, the selection of artisanal cured meats were light but with robust flavours. The light focaccia bread gave out so many Italian herb flavours. It was  so light and tasteful, you could even enjoy on its own.

No Italian food experience would be complete without a fresh  green salad and at Fratelli Fresh, the new Bitter Green Shaved Vegetable salad is a sure winner. The greens are tossed with a red wine and Anchovy vinaigrette producing a  zesty spring salad that is bursting with flavour.

It was time for some mains though and we started with the spinach and ricotta ravioli which  was simple, delicious and evidently fresh, as you could see the pressed edges of the ravioli as if they had just been put together. All this was blended in a true Italian tomato Passata with lots of Basil bringing out the flavour of the ravioli beautifully.

Our next main, also a pasta dish, was truly a taste sensation. It boasted large chunks of lobster, hints of chilli and perfectly al dente pacherri pasta. For us, this was the star dish of the evening. If you like seafood pasta and don’t mind a hint of hotness, then you will absolutely love this.

We also snuck in some risotto,, specially made by the chef for Count J, it had Basil and cream and became an instant favourite. It’s amazing how something so simple can be so delicious.

We were having such a lovely time and the room we were in had such lovely ambience that before we knew it, it was time for dessert. At this point, we weren't even sure if we could fit dessert in, but when the dessert is freshly made Tiramisu and Zeppole, how can you resist?

We  loved the Tiramisu so much, we could describe it as perfect. Count N is very fussy when it comes to Tiramisu, but said this one achieved the best balance of cream and coffee flavour. The zeppole were just as delicious, but we were just so full.

If you haven’t had a chance to try Fratelli Fresh’s new spring menu make sure you make your way to one of their many restaurants soon. The food is amazing, the service is great and the atmosphere oozes Italian hospitality.

Oh and we’ll share a little secret with you too. Fratelli Fresh now has an Aperitivo Hour every day between 3pm and 6pm. With half price negronis, $10 Spritzers and $15 pizzas,  it's the perfect excuse for a late lunch or early dinner. See you there!

The Counts dined as guests of Fratelli Fresh. Special thanks to Toby Franklin from Urban Purveyor for the invitation.
