PALACE HOTEL - HAYMARKET, SYDNEY

Palace Hotel
Capitol Square
730-742 George St
Haymarket, Sydney

It’s a busy pub in a busy part of Sydney that we hadn’t visited yet. Searching a quick meal we ended up here. Firstly, we were surprised at how big it was. From George Street it looks quite compact, but once you enter you realise there are other rooms that for part of this hotel.

After grabbing a couple of glasses of red we ordered a cheese platter to share. It turned out to be pretty good one too with three cheeses - a blue a brie and a cheddar - almonds, figs, fresh apple slices and an extremely generous pile of lavosh biscuits. This was also good value as well - and went nicely with our reds!

While we hadn’t planned to stay, we did. Monday Evening Trivia was running and even though we were invited to officially participate by organiser Rufus, we decided to just test our skills unofficially. We also decided to order a pizza to keep us fuelled! Our go to, a margherita, was on the menu so the decision was easy. The elongated pizza was again tasty with a tomato base topped with fior di latte cheese, tomato slices and a tangy basil pesto drizzled over it. We were satisfied!

The Palace Hotel is certainly a true pub. It’s in a busy location and gets a good flow of foot traffic through the doors.
