THE CAPTAIN'S BALCONY | BARANGAROO, SYDNEY

September 11, 2016

The Captain's Balcony
46 Erskine St
Barangaroo, NSW

If you are looking for a cool place to have a drink after work, make sure you head over to the Captain’s Balcony in the Sydney CBD. Located near the growing popular precinct of Barangaroo, The Captain’s Balcony offers 3 levels of ambience, top notch drinks and delicious food.

True to its name, the venue has a very inviting balcony where you can enjoy a drink or two whilst watching the world go by under you. Unfortunately for us though, the evening was quite cool so we chose to sit inside at lovely bar table on the middle floor.

We started our evening with a cocktail and here at the Captain’s Balcony, there are over 10 signature cocktails to choose from (jackpot). Count N generally likes gin or vodka, so he enjoyed the Captain Isabella which was refreshing and with a hint of sweetness. Count J on the other hand is a big fan of Tequila, so he went for the Hold Fast. A Dynamic cocktail with Tequila, Aperol and lemon flavours. Both drinks were strong and full of punch.

Time for some food though and we started with a few items from the share plate menu. The hand cut fries and 5 spice dusted squid were crispy, full of flavour and evidently fresh. They were both served with the creamiest Aioli which we scooped up with every bite.

We also tried the crispy fried Jalapeño poppers and boy can we tell you these had a punch to them. These fiery balls were covered in crispy batter and stuffed with cheese, something that we can describe only as a volcanic eruption in our mouths as we ate them. If you like a spicy snack with your drink, we would highly recommend this one.

As we finished our snacks, Count J enjoyed another cocktail, this time going for a Moscow mule which was just as strong and full of flavour.

Amidst all this drinking we noticed a lobster burger on the menu so we thought we should try it, because you know, there’s always room for something more.

The burger was beautifully presented, loaded with thick pieces of lobster nestled in the softest brioche roll. It came with a basket of those huge hand cut fries we love so much too. We were tempted to try another burger from the menu but decided to call it a night.

But we'll definitely be back. The Captain's balcony is a cool bar with lots of character and delicious food. It's open Monday-Saturday so be sure to check it out next time you see in the city and are looking for a cool bar to impress your friends.
