PICCOLO ARANCIO RISTORANTE - ROME, ITALY

Whenever we’re in Rome we love to explore the city and the side streets. While you never know what you’ll find there, you can be sure there will be some quaint restaurants and trattoria’s selling delicious house made food, often at prices significantly lower than the main squares. The quality and variety can be higher too so it’s usually worth heading off the beaten track. This was how we came across Piccolo Arancio Ristorante after wandering away from the nearby Trevi Fountain.

Gnocchi is a favourite of ours - well to be honest everything is in Rome. This was gnocchi al sugo “preparati a mano dallo chef” - hand made by the chef. These tasty small potato dumplings were served with a lovely tomato and basil sauce and garnished with a few fresh basil leaves.

Fettuccine and salmon are a great combination. This fettuccine al salmone had the flat pasta served with a lovely creamy salmon sauce. It was rich and very tasty and another good sized serving too.

Of course having a few meals means having a few wines too. Being fans of Nero d’Avola we were lucky to have the choice of two varieties here. We ended up selecting the “Noto” Nero d’Avola Biologico doc. It was so nice we went back for seconds.

We finished with a serving of house made tiramisu for dessert. We decided to share a single serving although when it comes to tiramisu most goes to Mlady! Nonetheless, it was another good sized serving so there was plenty to share!

If you see the sign saying Hostaria it’s worth a look. The word basically means tavern but one that seels food as well as drinks. We’re always looking out for it!

It turns out that Piccolo Arancio Ristorante has a very high rating on TripAdvisor. After eating there we can see why. The food is great, the servings good sized and the prices very reasonable. We’d gladly revisit.
