THE HARDWARE SOCIETE - MELBOURNE CBD

The Hardware Societe
118-120 Hardware St
Melbourne CBD

This had been on the radar for a while so when the chance came to go it was jumped at. This place isn't what was expected - its not flashy inside or outside. It doesn't exude class or style. Its pretty simple really and yet the masses flock here to sample their breakfasts and lunches. .
The fried eggs come on toasted olive bread with a generous serving of jamon underneath and a healthy quantity of rocket as well. It is all topped with manchego cheese and pesto. It was delicious. The flowing yolk blended so well with the jamon and manchego and the pesto gave it a tangy hit. The crisp rocket made you feel like you were eating a healthy meal too - almost. At $16.00 it was decent value as well.
The coffee here is very good too. Nice aroma and taste and accompanied by a little donut hole. I have to admit I wasn't sure how the sweet hit would go after after the savoury breakfast but it hit the spot (again). At only $3.50 it was reasonably priced.
The small kitchen works hard but very efficiently. I had the opportunity to sit at the counter and watch "the show" and it was a pleasure to see how well they do their job here.

The Hardware Societe is certainly worth a visit. The food is fresh, tasty and plentiful.
