It was so good to have been part of this exciting event at Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park. It was a real treat to go behind the scenes and chat with the suppliers while sampling goodies from their display stalls.

The event included welcome drinks, small-group workshops and discussion groups with the people who supply the Sheraton’s food and catering outlets. They were passionate about their products and happy to share their knowledge with fellow foodies. Very interesting to hear about the supply processes and the great care taken to get these quality ingredients to the table.

Of course a comprehensive taste test was in order, so we joined the seafood buffet at Feast Restaurant and took a table overlooking the beautiful Hyde Park.

The buffet showcases a magnificent colourful cold seafood selection which has a fabulous range. On this day, there was lobster, tiger prawns, blue swimmer crabs, King prawns, sushi and sashimi, bugs, oysters, smoked salmon, mussels and clams!

Around the room, other food stations had cold cured meats, cheeses and delicious antipasti items as well as massive amounts of super-fresh salad ingredients to make your own combinations. The ready-made salads and vegetable dishes were impressive and tempting. Hot and cold seafood and meat dishes were on offer as well as a carvery section at the rear with some amazing looking cuts of meat and roasted vegetables.

If that wasn’t enough, a noodle bar provided a great range of fresh raw ingredients and flavourings for the attending chef to create your perfect noodle soup!

Dessert! Well, the pretty pictures say it all. Not just good to look at but also really delicious. What a lovely range of treats to behold!

Dame R and I chose a couple of the supplier workshops to attend during our visit. We tasted wild caught scampi caviar from @FishBoy and learned about the harvest and preparation process of these unique blue eggs. The sashimi grade saltwater barramundi from Humpty Doo Barramundi just melted in the mouth! Sourced from the farm in the Northern Territory, the fish is certainly treated royally from start to finish.

We had a fun day at Feast Restaurant and totally enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere at this “Go Local” event. We sincerely hope the Sheraton hosts more of the same as we give it a big thumbs up.

Huge thanks to Amadou Doumbia from Sheraton for  this invitation
