EVE'S BAR | CHIPPENDALE, SYDNEY

Eve's Bar
Mercure Sydney
818 - 820 George St
Chippendale, Sydney

Mercure Sydney's ground floor "Eve's Bar" has had a make-over. The atmosphere is busy and buzzing and we noticed a lot of the after work drinks crowd enjoying themselves. Eve's Bar is also conducive for the students at nearby UTS where they are open for lunch. It really is a cosy place that sells good quality American styled food with a varied drinks menu. Part of the renovation includes a  beautiful opaque window depicting Railway Square of yesteryear.

For drinks we both started with cocktails. Mlady had a delicious Bail Agent described on the menu as - Tantalising your taste buds! A double shot of freshly made espresso shaken with coconut tequila, coffee liqueur and vanilla bean. This was oh so good - lovely taste. Mlady thoroughly enjoyed this very smooth cocktail. Sir chose a classic - Mojito. The menu said - "Stay busy, get plenty of exercise and don't drink too much. Then again, don't drink too little". Aged rum stirred together with sugar, citrus juice, fresh mint and dash of carbonated water. Sir loves his rum and this was a good sized cocktail with a good kick. He really enjoyed this. It was a nice touch with the bamboo looking straws.

To eat we ordered - Son of Piggy - Smokey BBQ pulled pork topped with crisp apple salad rested on flat bread. This was substantial and boy did it look good. It tasted really good too. Loved the crisp apple, a refreshing twist to apple sauce. The Smokey BBQ pulled pork was delicious and the flat bread held all this together very well. A very flavoursome dish with great textures.

Next we had The Great Southern - Buttermilk marinated chicken dusted in southern spices, crisp lettuce, tomato and smokey chipotle burger sauce. Oh yes this was good. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The spices and sauce were incredibly tasty. This burger ticked all the boxes. Mlady a fan of "the burger" thoroughly loved this but sadly she did have to share with Sir.

We both indulged in another cocktail each. Sir had Mexican Checkmate - stated on menu as - Brace yourself, the game is on! Chilli infused anejo, coconut rum, citrus juice, fresh mint ; topped with the juice of ginger spice. Drink - and wait for the mule to kick you. Such an amazing tasting cocktail! Mlady had Eve's Apple pie - The menu said -This savoury concoction of vodka, vanilla, citrus juice and cinnamon will leave your palette tingling for more.
This was such a nice smooth tasting cocktail. Mlady dipped the sliced apple in the elixir - lovely.

To accompany our meal we also ordered stringy spuds which are beer battered fries tossed with tobacco onions. Now, one could (possibly) think that this is a typo - and should be tabasco but there is such a name as tobacco onions. They get this name because when cooked they are curly and look like shredded tobacco. These were really crisp and had a lovely spicy flavour and are a must order side as far as we're concerned!

The food at Eve's Bar is very flavoursome and substantial and their cocktails are amazing. It's a cosy place that is well worth a visit.

Thank you to Raymond and Rajan for looking after us. Was great catching up with GG - food and beverage manager of Mercure Sydney. Special thanks to Tessa from Accor for arranging this visit.
